As a result of the Kenyan economic slump occasioned by various factors including unemployment and high inflation rate, many Kenyans are forced to tighten their belts in order to make ends meet.
Consequently, many households have cut down on unnecessary spending inorder to focus on the necessities in relation to their budgets.
For those whose budgets cannot accommodate the aforementioned, they are obliged to commit to digital loan apps which are at times predatory and may worsen one’s financial status in the long run if over-reliant on them.
As of the time of writing this article, there are over 100 loan apps in Kenya offering emergency credit to anyone with a mobile phone and an active subscription to the Safaricom network service.
One of such digital credit apps is KCB M-Pesa which is as a result of the partnership between Safaricom and KCB bank to advance mobile loans at 8.64% for 30 days to both KCB and non-KCB account holders upon satisfactory eligibility.
The KCB M-Pesa service is accessible from the Safaricom network using various channels such as SIM toolkit, MySafaricom app as well as the M-Pesa app.
KCB M-Pesa loans range from Ksh1,000 upto a maximum of Ksh1M depending on an individual’s merit on meeting the KCB M-Pesa limit increase requirements.
Repayments are due on the 30th day from the disbursement date with an option of a further 30 day extension period attracting a similar interest rate as the former.
By default, the KCB M-Pesa repayments are usually effected using the ‘Pay loan’ menu option available through the previously mentioned channels of accessing the service.
Through this menu, an individual can make a choice to make repayment via KCB or M-Pesa by making deposits to either of the accounts and using the repayment method below;
– Go to SIM toolkit menu
– Click on ‘M-Pesa’
– Select ‘Loans and Savings’
– Choose ‘KCB M-Pesa’
– Select ‘Loan@8.64% for 30 days’
– Tap on ‘Pay loan’
– Choose ‘From M-Pesa’
– Enter amount
– Enter M-Pesa PIN
Unfortunately, this does not work in instances of insufficient funds especially for Fuliza users despite the service being an overdraft facility.
However, there exists a method with which one can bypass such a minor inconvenience and pay KCB M-Pesa loan using Fuliza.
To do this, you are required to opt in to the Fuliza service and depending on your usage frequency of the M-Pesa service, a loan limit is assigned which can be increased organically or via this fuliza limit increase hack.
Therefore, depending on the loan limit, one can repay the KCB M-Pesa loan via fuliza by simply using the paybill option available in your Safaricom SIM toolkit menu and inputting the below details
– Paybill number: 522559
– Account number: *National ID number*
– Amount: *Any amount within your available fuliza limit*
You will then receive the fuliza amount notification request requiring you to proceed with the transaction.
Upon successful transaction, you will then receive an SMS from KCB M-Pesa stating that your loan has been repaid using the ‘fulizad’ amount.
Note: This method only works with the SIM toolkit.
