7 Simple Steps To Renew PR Card Online Within/Outside Canada

Navigate to the Permanent residence portal

Click on ‘Create an account’ and proceed to provide an email address and password

Select the checkbox to agree that you have read and accepted the portal’s terms of use and privacy policy.

Once done, click on ‘Create account’ to receive a confirmation code sent to your email address to complete your account registration.

Go to your email, copy the 6-digit verification code and paste it onto the empty verification field box on the portal then click on ‘Complete registration’

If done correctly, you will receive an on screen notification stating ‘Congratulations. You’ve successfully created a new account.

Use your email address and password to login to your account.

Once logged in, scroll down the webpage and click on the ‘Start Permanent Resident card/ Permanent Resident Travel Document application’ button

On the next screen, you will be required to select the option that best describes your current situation by tapping on the drop-down menu and selecting either ‘I am in Canada’ or ‘I am outside Canada’

You will then receive a disclaimer quoted as below

“To qualify for urgent PR Card processing, you must be travelling within the next 3 months due to: a job opportunity, your own serious illness, the death of a family member, work related to our current job, the serious illness of a family member, or you are in a crisis, emergency, or a vulnerable situation.

Even if you qualify for urgent PR Card processing, we can’t guarantee that you’ll get your PR Card on time. We cannot process applications for PR cards in less than three weeks.

If you do not receive your new PR Card before you travel abroad, you can submit an application for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD). You will be required to submit your passport outside of Canada in order to finalize your PRTD.

We encourage you to wait until you are outside of Canada to apply for a permanent resident travel document (PRTD)”

Once you have read and understood the disclaimer, select the checkbox to agree then click on ‘Apply for a PR card’
