Obtaining a Police Clearance Certificate in Kenya entails a variety of Police clearance certificate stages ranging from the creation of an ecitizen account so as to initiate the application process to the receipt of the actual document.
Within this process, applicants are also required to cover the associated cost related to the Police Clearance Certificate by making the necessary payments via the acceptable payment methods ranging from bank deposits, mobile money and digital payment platforms.
It is through these official payment channels and procedures that applicants are guaranteed transparency and convenience within the overall payment process.
Throughout this article, we will delve into the specific payment methods, detailing each option, its accessibility, and the specific procedures involved.
Police Clearance Certificate Payment Methods In Kenya
Before you can make payment towards your PCC, you are required to first and foremost state the intended ownership of the Police Clearance Certificate as well as choose your convenient location to have your fingerprints taken.
It is only after completion of the above that you will be directed to the payment page as shown below.
Currently, there are six (6) different payment options with which to pay for your Police Clearance Certificate through ecitizen and they include;
1. MPesa
This is a globally recognized Kenyan money transfer service pioneered by Safaricom that allows its subscribers to perform a variety of financial transactions such as send/receive money as well as make payments for various goods and services.
Under the MPesa method, there exists two (2) options i.e
MPesa Xpress: refers to the option whereby all the transaction details are sent to the customer via a push prompt and all that is required is their MPesa PIN to complete the transaction.
To make payment via MPesa Xpress, you are simply required to;
- Enter an MPesa registered phone number
- Click on the ‘Pay’ button
- Check your phone for the push prompt and enter your MPesa PIN
Wait for the MPesa transaction SMS so that you may finalize the process by clicking on the ‘Complete’ button
Paybill: refers to the manual input of paybill number, account number & amount followed by MPesa PIN inorder to finalize a transaction.
To make payment via MPesa Paybill, you are simply required to;
- Navigate to M-PESA in your Safaricom menu on your phone
- Select Lipa Na M-PESA
- Choose the Paybill option
- Enter the Paybill number 222222
- Enter your ecitizen assigned *Account number
- Enter the payment amount i.e 1050
- Enter your MPesa PIN
Wait for the MPesa transaction SMS so that you may finalize the process by clicking on the ‘Complete’ button.
2. Airtel Money
Airtel Money is a money transfer service provided by Airtel Kenya that operates similarly to Safaricom’s MPesa.
Under the Airtel Money method, there exists two (2) options i.e
USSD Code: refers to short network codes assigned to specific functions that promote quick and direct communication between user and service provider.
To make payment via Airtel USSD code;
- Dial *334# from an Airtel line
- Select option 6: Paybill & Till payments
- Select option 4: Airtel Paybill
- Select option 6: Government Services
- Select option 1: eCitizen
- Enter your ecitizen assigned *Reference number
- Enter payment amount
- Input your Airtel Money PIN
MyAirtel App: refers to the official Airtel app that consolidates majority of the Airtel services for convenience purposes.
To make payment via Airtel Money App;
- Download, install and launch the MyAirtel App from Playstore / Appstore
- Select ‘Paybill’
- Enter the Paybill number: 222222
- Enter your ecitizen assigned *Reference number
- Enter payment amount
- Input your Airtel Money PIN
3. Visa/Mastercard
This refers to any bank-issued debit card that allows for online transactions. To pay for a Police Clearance Certificate via this method, you are required to enter the card details into the relevant sections in your ecitizen account.
The required details include;
- Card first & last name
- Card number
- CVV: the last three digits at the back of your card
- Expiration date: Month and year
- Billing info: Country, State/Province/Region, City, Address & ZIP Codes
Upon completion, click on the ‘Submit Query’ button.
4. E-Agent
This option requires the services of an approved ecitizen agent with the necessary credentials i.e email address & password to validate the transaction.
5. KCB/Equity Cash
This involves making a cash deposit at any KCB/Equity branch with the below print instructions.
