[Solved] Helb ‘Paid To Account’ But Funds Not Reflecting
Helb is somewhat of a lifeline to students pursuing higher education in Kenya who lack the adequate funds to sustain and complete their academic endeavors.
As such, Helb annually receives thousands of applications of students in need of funding from various tertiary institutions such as public, private and TVET colleges/universities.
However due to the large volume of applicants, Helb allocates funds for both loans and scholarships based on an applicant’s level of need by utilizing the Means Testing Instrument (MTI) method which ensures that all qualified applicants receive an unbiased portion of the Helb kitty.
Upon allocation and disbursement of the funds, the recipients can therefore proceed to access them either through bank account or mobile money depending on the mode of payment selected during the application process.
However, there are instances whereby the disbursed funds may not reflect in your account despite your Helb portal indicating that the money has been ‘Paid To Account’ as referenced below.
If this is your case, do not worry since it is a completely normal occurrence and requires a little bit of patience to resolve.
As highlighted earlier, depending on your chosen payment channel i.e M-PESA/bank account there are a few pointers you have to keep in mind in regards to accessing the released Helb funds and they include;
1. Helb Upkeep Funds Paid To Bank Account
If you chose to receive Helb funds via your personal bank account whereby you ACCURATELY indicated your bank name, branch and account number, it should take approximately 72 hours from the disbursement date for the money to reflect in your bank account.
Please note that this only applies if you are sure that you filled in your bank details correctly during the registration process or that your bank account is not dormant. Otherwise, the funds may be reversed.
2. Helb Upkeep Funds Paid To Mobile Number
This mode of payment requires you to only submit your active M-PESA registered phone number so as to access your upkeep funds via M-PESA.
However in order to do this, you need to first be subscribed to Surepay which is an SMS notification service that alerts Helb recipients regarding their Helb disbursements.
Subscription to the Surepay service is usually automatic for Helb applicants who opt for mobile payments during application.
As such, before you can receive funds to your mobile number, you need to be notified by Surepay via two (2) SMS whereby;
- 1st SMS: Addition as a beneficiary to the Higher Education Loans Board
- 2nd SMS: Receipt of funds from Higher Education Loans Board for Upkeep
Please note that without both SMS from Surepay, you will not have access to your Helb upkeep funds. In addition, the Surepay SMS may not be simultaneously sent or received within the same day.
