Loan Apps That Call Your Phonebook Contact List [2022]

Mobile credit is the new ‘cash cow’ that is attracting a majority of investors owing to its lucrative high return on investments through short-term loans disbursed with hefty interest rates.

Despite their ‘exploitative’ business model being in the public domain, most Kenyans find themselves drawn to their services, not by choice but rather necessity due to the ever-worsening state of the economy dotted with inflation, unemployment and redundancy crises.

Consequently, the majority of borrowers are unable to repay the loans upon due dates and as a result they are forced to endure numerous harassment techniques from lenders in a bid to recover their loans.

Some opt for bombarding defaulters with endless calls and messages, threats of CRB listing and demand letters via email while others go ahead and make calls to contacts available in the users phone book.

While this might seem like an extreme method of invasion of privacy, it is actually within their mandate to do so since it is hidden somewhere in-between the extensive texts that make up the Terms and Conditions which NO-ONE bothers to read anyway!

To save you the hustle of identifying the loan apps that might cause you such embarrassment, we have listed a few culprits below.

I am being harassed by LIONCASH APP. I took I loan of 6500 14 days ago. This loan I was to pay after 21 days but instead they had reduced my days to 14 days. After reducing my days to 14 days, I was supposed to clear a day before yesterday which couldn’t because one I had lost my job like 4 days ago and the money I had I used it to pay for my rent. when LIONCASH APP called me, I tried explaining things to them but they couldn’t listen to me they started telling me that they will deal with me very well if I fail to pay their loan.. They went ahead to start calling my contacts including my inlaws which I wasn’t happy with that at all. They continued threatening me and sending harsh messages to me. Considering what has been going on in our country, I really got scared I am even scared of everything I have been paying my loan diligently and without falling and on time but just because I failed to clear this one out on time, my life is being threatened by LIONCASH App. >>LIONCASH APP IS TRYING TO VIOLATE MY PRIVACY.. Calling entire family telling them I saved them as referee whole contacts?? Someone help I’m tired . Below is their sample of their threatening text messages 👇👇

(Your refusal to answer calls from lion cash today has been NOTED & Recorded. Lion CASH is thereby contacting your CONTACT Referees and dispatching harsh messages incase no payment is received by 11:20am,we will Reach out to more not excluding collegues ,friends and extended family when you allowed us ACCESS your CONTACTS during loan Application
Regards Lion Cash) thats their texts.. I’m fed up.

Your right to privacy is your constitutional right which supercedes any other law, so get in touch with me if you feel your constitutional right to privacy was violated by using any loan app, just reply to this

    • Chidimma Merit says:

okash is violating my constitutional right. i have an overdue loan that i was supposed to pay back on 4th jan 2021 but i couldn’t make payment because i had a medical emergency and explained to them asking for an extension and time to pay not minding the ridiculous rollover fees. i asked for grace to pay this week given that is the first time i am defaulting. they refused and they are threatening to call and sms all my contacts to shame me.
Do they have such right to voilate my privacy like that?
Here is a message they sent to me today:
Find below the SMS the company will send to all your contacts:
A CHRONIC DEBTOR WITH NAME: ##### PHONE NO: ##### IS ON THE RUN WITH COMPANY MONEY AND IS WANTED. THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED TO DISTANCE FROM HIM AS HE HAS PROVEN TO BE DUBIOUS. UNTIL HE PAYS THAT MONEY, HE WILL BE ARRESTED SOON. OKASH.
      How do i handle this?
