How To Apply For Birth Certificate Online In Kenya In 2023

Child birth 1

Login to your e-citizen account

Under the dashboard, go to the Civil Registration Department menu and click on ‘Get Service’ followed by ‘Make Application’

Click on the ‘Birth Certificate’ menu to get a list of options for child/Adult or late registration. Since we will be applying for a new birth certificate, choose the ‘Application For Child Current Birth Certificate’

Under this option, there are certain requirements needed in order to successfully make the application. Such requirements include: scanned copy of birth notification, parents ID as well as applicable fees.

Additionally, this application should be submitted at least 30 days after the date of birth.

Once the above conditions have been met, click on ‘Apply Now’ to start the application.

The application process involves four steps which are as below:

Step 1: You are required to choose the type of application i.e. whether it is for a new birth certificate or a replacement. This can be done by clicking on the drop down menu and selecting ‘New BC’

The above action will in turn bring up other mandatory questions such as whether the child’s birth was done at a health facility, possibility of name amendments and if the child is above 18 years.

Once these questions have been accurately answered, click on ‘Continue’ to go to the next step.

Step 2: In this step, you are required to select the county of birth, the hospital the birth occurred in, birth notification number, attach a scanned copy of the birth notification, child’s name (first, last & surname), date of birth and gender of child.

Furthermore, you have to indicate the parental status i.e. single parent or not.

If you are a single parent, you need to submit your address as well as a pickup location for the certificate.

If not a single parent, provide the other parent’s ID number, full names, scanned copy of their ID, address and pickup location.

Once completed, click on ‘Continue’

Step 3: This step requires you to review the accuracy of the details provided in the previous steps. If there are amendments to be made, click on ‘Previous’ and make them. Otherwise, if they are correct, click on ‘Submit’

Step 4: This is the final step in the application of the birth certificate in Kenya and involves making payment. There are various payment methods including Mpesa, debit/credit/prepaid card, Airtel Money, EazzyPay, Telkom T-Kash, E-Agent or Pesalink.

Once you have successfully made payment, you will have to await feedback. Once the certificate is ready for collection, you will be notified via SMS.
