Fake SIM CARD conmen on the loose!

simcardEleven suspected con artists were yesterday charged at an Embu court. The six men and five women are thought to have conned residents out of thousands of shillings in false promotions.

They were, however, not charged with the offence as none of their victims was willing to testify against them. The prosecution therefore charged them with failing to comply with the market master register order in which they are to agree to trade at specified area.

The police have decided to regularly charge them with the minor offence until they leave the town. They pleaded guilty to the offence and were each fined Sh1,000 or spend two weeks in jail if they default.

The suspects allegedly sell fake sim cards to unsuspecting customers with a promise of a reward. They then ask their victims to pay a certain amount of money to redeem the prize before running away.
